Terms and Conditions
The information below will give you a good idea of the services I provide at Henrietta’s Handmade Cakes. Please get in touch if you still have any questions.
Consultations for Wedding Cakes and Large orders
Free, no obligation consultations are available for wedding cakes and other orders over £250, by appointment only. Please give me a call or email me to book a complementary consultation and tasting. Appointments last for about one hour and are designed for up to three people.
Because of the preparation involved, I need at least 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule a consultation. If you can't give 24 hours notice, I may need to charge a fee of £25.
When booking your cake we require a £150 or 50% deposit, whichever is the greater. This deposit is non-refundable should you cancel your order for any reason. However, it may be transferable to another date depending on availability and I will always try to find another mutually suitable date. Four weeks prior to the event, the balance of the amount is due. The balance must be cleared at least three weeks before the collection or delivery of your cake.
I don’t start work on your cake until the balance is paid, and if payment is late, I may not be able to complete your order in time. If you cancel your order 14 days before the event, a 25% refund is available. Any other refunds are made at our discretion only. We take payment by cheque or bank transfer. Details are available on request or can be found on your invoice.
Wedding cake delivery is complementary for central London venues and in the Dulwich area. All other delivery charges can be provided on request and are charged by the mile. I always liaise closely with event coordinator and/or venue to ensure that we deliver at the best possible time.
On occasion we are faced with severe weather conditions, public unrest, or other unexpected events that may make your venue inaccessible. You can be assured that we will always do our best to deliver as pre-arranged, however circumstances beyond our control may prevent us from delivering your cake. Wedding insurance may give you peace of mind.
We charge a fixed set up cost of £30 for the safe installation of your cake. This is optional but is recommended. We can alternatively leave your cake with the event team at your venue. However, some cakes are complex to set up and require extensive on-site decoration, and we will discuss this at your consultation.
After setting up your cake, I will send a photograph by text or email to a nominated person so you can be assured that your cake has arrived and that it arrived in perfect condition!
Cakes that are collected from our studios are always boxed securely, and are suitable to be transported in the boot of a safely-driven car. I will give you instruction on the care and handling of your cake. I recommend picking up your cake in a car or van as tiered cakes can be very heavy. I do not take any responsibility for any damage that may occur to the cake once it has left our premises.
I am happy to make alterations to your cake design and order up to 4 weeks prior to your event date. If ordering cupcakes or mini cakes you may also alter the amount of your order. Please be aware that this may affect the balance due and your invoice will be adjusted accordingly. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your cake order, please just call.
For alterations less than 3 weeks before your event, I will do my very best to accommodate them. However, I may have already started work on your cake so not all alterations can be accepted at this point.
I can hire many different cake stands on which to display your cake at your event.
With stand hire I ask for a refundable £80 deposit on pedestal stands and £100 on tiered acrylic stands. This is payable with your final cake payment. The hire charge for pedestals is £25 and for tiered stands £40. I ask for all stands are returned to me by prior arrangement a maximum of 3 days after the event. This is because we may need it for another client. Deposits are refunded within 48 hours of a return by arrangement.
If stands are not returned, returned damaged or with pieces missing your deposit is surrendered. Any refund is done at our discretion.
With stand hire I will provide a protective box. Stands MUST be returned in this box. If you choose to return stands via the postal system, you must package appropriately and we take no responsibility for any damage caused by couriers or Royal Mail. Please use appropriate postal insurance.
Flowers and inedible items
At your request, cakes sometimes contain inedible items such as broaches, ribbons, flowers and feathers etc. These items must be removed before serving and we accept no responsibility for any harm these might cause.
We can provide flowers to decorate your cake, or we will liaise directly with your florist. Be aware that some flowers are not suitable for cake decoration, or may be toxic if eaten and all foliage must be removed before serving. If you choose to use fresh flowers, I do not take responsibility for any contamination that they may cause.
We are happy to offer suggestions on cakes that are "free from" certain allergens.
All allergy and dietary requirements should be provided to me during the consultation, and confirmed in writing thereafter.
Unless otherwise specified all my cakes contain butter, gluten (wheat) and eggs and are made in an environment that handles nuts, soya and alcohol. Nut-free, wheat-free, dairy-free and alcohol-free cakes can be made on request but we cannot guarantee that these cakes will not contain trace amounts of these ingredients due to the nature of production. I can make cakes with gluten-free ingredients, but due to the nature of the certification procedures, I cannot refer to my cakes as “gluten-free” products.
Please make me aware of any special dietary requirements that you may have as soon as you possibly can and definitely at your consultation. I can disucss the requirements with you and will only take on "free-from" orders that I am confident are within the capability of our kitchen to handle. Please don't be offended if I decline a "free-from" request. I have your good health at heart.
I reserve the right to take photos of any of my cakes, either completed or in progress, in situ or in my kitchen. Photos may be used on my website or on Social Media for promotion purposes. No photos will be published until after your event has started. If you do not want me to take or use photos of your cake(s), you can let me know at the consultation.
